Mastercard pushes innovation drive in Ireland by hiring blockchain specialists

Mastercard is driving payment innovations in Ireland by hiring 175 fresh employees, which includes blockchain specialists, as it looks to explore blockchain solutions and AI in a bid to make payments secure.

The new initiative is a part of the payment service provider’s assurance to infuse innovation in payments, and formulate “revolutionary” security solutions. The new talents Mastercard is hunting for include software engineers, specialists in blockchain technology, data scientists, analysts, cloud infrastructure specialists and information security experts.

The new employees will be based at Mastercard’s office in Leopardstown, which is also the global headquarters of Mastercard Labs – its R&D wing. Presently, 380 employees in the office are busy exploring a wide array of blockchain solutions, AI and QR payment solutions to secure and transform payments.

The new job opportunities follow up Mastercard’s recent declaration to club its digital and physical payment teams under a single organisation. As a testimony, the freshly-created Products and Innovation team will bring together core products, digital payments, Mastercard Labs and processing activities.

Commenting on the move Mastercard Ireland’s country manager Sonya Geelon said: “We’re really proud to be investing further in our Irish presence. At our Dublin office, we’re working on innovations that will shape the future of payments not just in Ireland, but all around the world. We’re driving projects that promote financial inclusion at home and abroad, and are working to provide consumers, businesses and governments with the most innovative, safe and secure ways to pay.”

In October last year, the payments giant allowed particular financial institutions and merchants to access its blockchain technology via its API so that the selected parties can start testing their own blockchain-based solutions.
